Grassroots Group Demonstrates that McCain-Palin Ticket
Would Leave Hefty Taxpayer Tab
St. Louis, MO – Progressive Future volunteers dressed as Governor Palin and Senator McCain greeted vice presidential debate attendees with a "taxpayer tab" of $27,000 for expenses such as the impending bailout, fossil fuel subsidies, and the Iraq war. Representatives from the group say the purpose of today’s event was to point out that Gov. Palin and Sen. McCain are not the right team to bring the change America needs or to lead the country out of the current economic crisis.
"You don't ask the same people who drove our economy into a ditch to steer us back out," said Sarah Payne, Progressive Future Media Associate. "This Election Day voters should remember that exactly nine years earlier on Nov. 4th Sen. McCain was casting his vote in the U.S. Senate to abolish the key protections designed to tame Wall Street and prevent our current economic crisis."
Along with the tax bill, the volunteers gave out a menu for "John and Sarah's Diner," serving up such Bush-friendly fare as "John's Wall Street Sliders," "Sarah's Baked Alaska," and "Phil Gramm's Foreclosure Whine."
"Along with her running mate, Gov. Palin offers a double helping of economic destruction and half-baked ideas. This ticket will continue President Bush's failed policies and leave ordinary taxpayers paying the tab," concluded Payne.
Progressive Future promotes progressive values through grassroots action. Its mission is to win long-term policy victories on core progressive priorities. This fall, Progressive Future is running several large-scale field programs to engage citizens in the upcoming election, including efforts to register hundreds of thousands of new voters; talk to more than 1million undecided voters in key battleground states; and activate tens of thousands of volunteers for a neighbor-to-neighbor 96-hour GOTV drive for Barack Obama.
